This, the second most important tourist resort on the island, is
a charming fishing village built around a bay on the N.E coast of
the island.
The most striking feature is the sweeping sandy beach.
White-washed houses line the coast and opposite the main jetty in an
elevated position on a small promontory, is the charming church of
Agia Paraskevi, which is clearly visible from all parts of the
village.
Nearby the church, tavernas, restaurants and quaint, traditional
island coffee shops are ready to serve us. Each morning, boats and
caiques put in to the jetty with their catch of fresh fish, octopus,
and lobster. This is also the point of embarkation for the 30 minute
trip to Kimolos Island.
Following the beach road around to the left, we come to Pelekouda,
an attractive newly built district with island style houses and
complexes with private rooms and apartments for summer visitors.
Here too, towards the end of this peninsular, is the immaculately
kept church of Agios Nicholas, the patron saint of seafarers.
